Life exists outside a physical form, with no beginning and no end.
A physical form of matter is bound by time. In the grand scheme
of things, our perception of time itself is bound. Remember, time “started”, which
means that it did not exist before its creation during the birth of the
universe. Something triggered the creation of time and matter, and that is,
according to me, Life. We are just a tiny little fraction of that life that takes
physical form for a short period of time. And that fraction of life… is a soul.
Life for us in this world is a short boat ride in a little canoe
called the human body that carries our souls across a river called this “world”.
At the end of the ride, we leave the canoe and embark on the next part of the
journey… our souls move to a different mode of transport. Now if we damage the
canoe, sink it, or carefully navigate it across the waters, life goes on, the
journey continues. We just have to decide how easy or difficult we make the
journey for ourselves. One way or the other, we will get to the other side.
So why are afraid of death? Is it the unknown of ‘what happens
next’, the fear of losing all physical connections to people and objects in
this word forever, or the grief of watching someone close to ourselves pass
away? Maybe it is a combination of some of the above, maybe all. We came in to
this world without anything, so we should leave everything behind. We don’t own
anything or anybody. Once the body is gone, all possessions are disowned. All
we leave behind is a memory that will either fade away, or worse, distort over
time. The word “death” has evolved into a fearsome symbol of agony and pain
that comes after a long journey of misery. Let’s call it what it really
signifies, let’s call it a riverbank with soft, green grass and a road through
a beautiful forest. And the boat ride could be adventurous through rapids as
well as calm waters.
A soul neither has a defined physical form, nor is it bound by time. It
was created by carving out a piece of life after the universe was created, and
will be bound only by the end of the universe, to return to the
eternal pool of life. The universe will die and be reborn as well. Time will
be created again, and so will new souls. We are just travelers that will
eventually return to our home, Life…
